Fare Increase for Pattaya Baht Buses Starts April 10, 2026

Visitors and residents in Pattaya will now pay more to ride the city’s iconic baht buses. A new fare adjustment took effect on April 10, 2026.

What changed

  • New fare range: 15 to 20 Baht
  • Effective date: April 10, 2026
  • Applies to: Two main baht bus lines in Pattaya
  • Reason: Rising operating costs and current economic conditions

Operators issued a short apology and thanked passengers for their support.

What is a baht bus

Baht buses are modified pickup trucks with two bench seats in the back. Locals call them “songthaews.” They act as shared taxis and fixed-route buses.

You do not need an app or schedule. You flag one down, hop in, and press a buzzer when you want to get off.

Why they matter

Baht buses are the backbone of transport in Pattaya.

  • Low cost. Even after the increase, fares stay affordable.
  • High availability. You find one every few minutes on busy routes.
  • Simple to use. No language barrier. No ticket system.
  • Tourist-friendly. They connect major areas without planning.

If you visit for a few days, you will likely use them daily.

Main routes you will use

Most routes run in loops or along major roads:

  • Beach Road and Second Road loop
    • Covers hotels, malls, nightlife, and the beach
  • North Pattaya to South Pattaya
    • Connects central hubs and busier districts
  • Jomtien route
    • Links Pattaya city to Jomtien Beach

Drivers may deviate late at night or accept private hires at higher rates.

How to ride

  • Stand on the roadside and wave
  • Hop on from the back
  • Press the buzzer near your stop
  • Pay the driver after you get off

Keep small change ready. It speeds things up.

What the price rise means

A jump to 15 to 20 Baht remains low by global standards. Still, it adds up if you ride often.

Example:

  • 4 rides per day
  • Old average: 10 Baht = 40 Baht
  • New average: 15 Baht = 60 Baht
  • Daily increase: 20 Baht

Over a week, that is 140 Baht more.

Bottom line

Baht buses remain the easiest way to move around Pattaya. The price increase reflects higher costs, not a service change. You still get quick, flexible transport across the city at a low price.
