PATTAYA, Thailand — Police are investigating a late-night Pattaya road accident involving a young British man on an electric off-road bike and a Thai woman on a scooter. The crash, which occurred in Soi Bongkot 8, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi, left both parties injured and sparked an assault on the foreign rider by bystanders.

The incident took place at around 11:05 p.m. on 14 August. Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, a well-known Pattaya volunteer rescue service, and Pattaya City Police rushed to the scene.
Officers discovered a damaged pink Honda Scoopy i scooter, registered in Chonburi, lying in the middle of the road. The rider, 49-year-old Ms. Jurairat Petcharaksa, suffered a head wound and multiple abrasions. She received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital.
The other vehicle involved was an electric bike, reportedly used for off-road riding, driven by a young British national whose identity has not yet been disclosed. Witnesses told police the man had been performing wheelies — a stunt where the front wheel is lifted off the ground — along the road, narrowly missing pedestrians, before colliding with Ms. Jurairat, who was travelling normally.
Bystanders claim the British rider appeared to blame the victim for the Pattaya crash, sparking anger among onlookers. Several members of the public allegedly attacked him before police intervened to restore order.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the accident. Pattaya police say the case will be handled impartially and that all parties will be treated fairly under Thai law.
