A foreign man was shot and arrested after allegedly stabbing a Bangkok police officer during a violent disturbance in the Pattanakarn area on Thursday afternoon. The officer sustained knife injuries and was taken to hospital, while the suspect was shot after the confrontation and remains under police custody.

The incident occurred at around 4:30pm on September 24 outside a condominium on Soi Pattanakarn 54, a residential side street in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district. Emergency services, police investigators, and rescue volunteers responded to the scene following reports of a violent altercation.
According to Thai police, officers from Khlong Tan Police Station were called after receiving reports of a foreign man allegedly damaging property, smashing shop windows, and attacking people in the area.
When patrol officers arrived, the situation escalated. Police said the suspect allegedly stabbed Police Corporal Jarut Yaemsuan, the head of a patrol unit at Khlong Tan Police Station, during an attempt to bring the situation under control.
The injured officer was taken to Police General Hospital for treatment.
Authorities found broken shop windows and blood at the scene, indicating the disturbance had spread across the immediate area before police intervened.
Police said the suspect, described as a foreign man believed to be between 40 and 50 years old, fled after the stabbing. During the pursuit, the injured officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect. He suffered one gunshot wound to the abdomen and two to the upper thigh before being restrained with the assistance of members of the public.

Emergency responders treated the suspect at the scene before transporting him to Police General Hospital.
In Thailand, it is not uncommon for rescue organisations such as the Ruamkatanyu Foundation to assist police and ambulance services during emergencies. The Erawan Center, which also attended the incident, coordinates Bangkok’s emergency medical response system.
Police have not released the suspect’s nationality or identity, and authorities have not confirmed the events leading up to the disturbance. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the use of force by officers and the motive behind the alleged attacks.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as authorities complete their inquiries.
