A violent fight involving foreign tourists on Bangla Road in Patong, Phuket, has raised fresh concerns about visitor safety and the island’s image as a major holiday destination. Police say legal action is now under way against four suspects.

The incident occurred late on Sunday night in Patong, a popular beach town on Phuket island. Bangla Road is the area’s main nightlife street, known for bars, clubs, and heavy tourist traffic, especially after dark.
A video of the fight was posted on Facebook by a local user, Jeerawut Wangnurak. The footage showed several foreign men attacking another man in the street. The group kicked and punched the victim until he fell. They then continued to strike him while bystanders looked on.
Other tourists later stepped in and stopped the assault. The video spread quickly online and drew strong reactions from Thai social media users. Many comments criticised law enforcement and claimed foreign visitors often avoid punishment.
Police later said the victim was a local bar owner. Officers stated he had argued with a foreign man over a parking issue outside a nearby bar at around 9.30 pm. According to police, the foreign man left the area and returned about ten minutes later with three companions. The group then attacked the bar owner.
The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment. Police confirmed they have started legal proceedings against the four foreign suspects involved in the assault.
Local residents also expressed concern. Many said incidents of public violence harm Phuket’s reputation and affect people who rely on tourism. One resident wrote online that visitors come to the island to relax, not to feel unsafe due to street fights.
Authorities said they are increasing efforts to maintain public order and protect Phuket’s standing as a safe destination for visitors. Police added they aim to address concerns from both residents and tourists as the investigation continues.
