A 63-year-old German man has been arrested in Bangkok after immigration authorities discovered he had overstayed his permission to remain in Thailand by more than 15 years. Officers also seized suspected crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, during the operation.

The arrest followed an investigation by Thailand’s Immigration Bureau after local residents reported suspicious activity around the man’s home, including late-night disturbances and frequent visits from young motorcyclists.

According to immigration authorities, the man had remained in Thailand for 5,732 days beyond his authorised period of stay. This equates to approximately 15 years and eight months.

The investigation began after residents raised concerns about repeated disturbances during the night and an unusual number of young motorcyclists visiting the property during late hours.

Following surveillance of the residence, immigration officers moved in and conducted an investigation.

Crystal Methamphetamine Seized During Bangkok Arrest

During the operation, officers discovered and seized one bag containing a suspected Category 1 narcotic, identified as methamphetamine, commonly referred to as crystal meth or ice.

The 63-year-old German national faces charges relating to possession of methamphetamine for personal use and overstaying his authorised period of stay in Thailand.

Following his arrest, the suspect and the seized evidence were transferred to Bang Khen Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Thailand Continues Crackdown on Visa Overstayers

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has stated it will continue operations targeting foreign nationals suspected of immigration violations and drug-related offences.

The case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Thai authorities in monitoring foreign nationals who remain in the country beyond their authorised period of stay.

Thailand has strict immigration laws, and overstaying a visa or permission to remain can result in fines, detention, deportation and, depending on the circumstances, re-entry bans.

In this case, the alleged 5,732-day overstay represents more than 15 years living in Thailand without valid immigration permission.

For a country that relies heavily on international tourism and welcomes millions of foreign visitors each year, immigration enforcement remains an important part of maintaining control over who enters and remains within its borders.
