German Man Arrested in Pattaya for Alleged Cocaine Distribution; Nearly 500,000 Baht in Drugs Seized

PATTAYA, Thailand – June 17, 2025

A 42-year-old German national was arrested in central Pattaya this week for allegedly distributing cocaine across the city, following a police sting operation that uncovered drugs and a firearm at his residence. Authorities estimate the total value of the seized narcotics to be nearly 500,000 Thai baht (approx. USD 13,500).

The suspect, publicly identified only as “Mr. Mike,” had been working as a manager at a local beer bar and sports club, common types of nightlife venues in Thailand that often cater to tourists and expatriates. Investigators allege this role was used as a cover for his drug trafficking activities targeting the foreign community in Pattaya.

According to Pattaya City Police, the arrest followed an undercover operation in which officers arranged to purchase 2 grams of cocaine for 5,000 baht (approximately USD 140). The transaction was set to take place in a parking area in Central Pattaya, specifically in Moo 9 of Nong Prue Subdistrict, a well-known zone in the Bang Lamung District of Chonburi Province.

At the scheduled meeting time, the suspect posed as a tourist and sat at a popular fried chicken restaurant nearby. Once the drug exchange was completed, officers attempted to make the arrest. The suspect, however, noticed the operation and fled the scene on a motorcycle, heading toward Soi Buakhao—a busy street known for its bars and nightlife. Police apprehended him shortly after the chase, seizing 2.61 grams of cocaine and marked cash used in the sting.

A follow-up search at his residence in Central Pattaya led to the discovery of an additional 424 grams of cocaine, as well as a .380 calibre handgun and ammunition.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly gave inconsistent statements. He claimed that a fellow German national had provided him with the cocaine to sell at 2,500–3,000 baht per gram, in quantities as large as one kilogram. He alleged that he distributed the drugs among foreign residents and tourists and shared the profits with the supplier.

Authorities remain doubtful of his account and are currently expanding the investigation, suspecting that this case may be connected to a broader drug trafficking network operating within Thailand’s major tourist hubs.

Police revealed that the suspect had been residing in Thailand for 4–5 years, using his position in the nightlife industry as a front for his illegal activities. He is now in custody, and legal proceedings are underway.

Note to Visitors and Expats:
Thailand has strict anti-drug laws, and offences involving narcotics are treated with severe penalties, including long prison terms and heavy fines. The country’s law enforcement agencies continue to actively pursue drug-related crimes, especially in tourist areas like Pattaya, Phuket, and Bangkok.
