German Tourist Arrested in Phuket After Spa Theft

A German tourist arrested in Phuket is facing theft charges after stealing cash from a massage spa in Phuket Town. Police said the suspect later returned to the shop to apologise, which led to his arrest.

The incident happened on 20 January 2026 at a massage shop on Ranong Road. Staff noticed money was missing and checked CCTV footage. The video showed a foreign tourist opening a cash drawer and taking 2,000 baht while the cashier stepped away from the counter.

Spa Theft Uncovered Through CCTV Footage

After reviewing the footage, the shop reported the theft to the police. Officers confirmed the suspect’s actions through the CCTV recording and opened an investigation.

Police Identify Suspect and Secure Arrest Warrant

Phuket City Police worked with Tourist Police and Immigration officers to identify the suspect. Investigators confirmed his identity and obtained a court warrant for his arrest on theft charges.

Suspect Arrested After Returning to the Scene

Police arrested Mr. Laszlo Ruben Eschenlohr, age 25, at 7.00 p.m. on 21 January 2026. Officers found him at the same massage shop where the theft occurred. Police seized two pairs of sports shoes as evidence. The warrant charged him with jointly committing theft.

Police said the suspect returned to the shop to apologise and repay the stolen money. The shop refused the repayment and contacted officers. During questioning, the police explained the charges and penalties. The suspect cried and admitted to stealing the cash. He said a friend stole the shoes and claimed the act happened on impulse.

Police Continue Search for Additional Suspects

Police continue to investigate the case. Officers are searching for two more people believed to be involved in the theft.
