Miss Vietnam 2024 Grand Finale Rescheduled for June 26 in Hue Due to Storm Damage

HUE, VIETNAM — The grand finale of Miss Vietnam 2024, originally planned for June 14, has been postponed to June 26 following severe weather caused by Storm Wutip in central Vietnam. Organisers confirmed the rescheduling during a press conference on June 13, citing safety concerns and logistical challenges in the wake of the storm.

Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee, explained that continuous heavy rain raised water levels in the nearby Huong River (also known as the Perfume River), rendering the original outdoor venue unsuitable.

“After evaluating several backup options, including moving the event indoors, we decided to keep the finale outdoors to preserve the event’s spirit and symbolism,” Binh said. He added that the outdoor setting is integral to the cultural image the competition aims to project.

The Miss Vietnam contest is a prestigious national beauty pageant that has been held since 1988, celebrating Vietnamese beauty, intellect, and talent. This year marks the first time the grand finale will be held in Hue, a former imperial capital known for its historic landmarks and poetic scenery.

Deputy Head of the organising committee, Hoang Tho Ninh, noted that the delay allows additional time for both safety preparations and contestant readiness. “Contestants will use this period to rest, recharge, and continue training for the big night. Their optimism and determination remain high,” Ninh said.

The Miss Vietnam 2024 finale is part of a broader cultural and entertainment programme designed to promote tourism and highlight Hue’s heritage. The event will feature 25 finalists and a star-studded lineup of Vietnamese performers, including popular singers Ho Ngoc Ha and Le Quyen, violinist Hoang Rob, and musician Tri Minh.

Set along the iconic Huong River, the finale promises to be both a celebration of beauty and a showcase of Vietnamese culture—one that organisers hope will leave a lasting impression on both domestic and international audiences.
