Mardi Gras is the french words French for Fat Tuesday, or more commonly known as Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Tuesday). No matter the name, the day is a day filled full of parades, parties and gastronomic indulgence before the Christian festival of Lent begins on Wednesday the 26th. Ash Wednesday marks the end of the six weeks carnival season acclaimed globally.
Mardi Gras is synonymous with Carnival celebrations in New Orleans, Venice and Rio, and marked in similarly festive fashion around the world. This year Bangkok will throw a Mardi Gras extravaganza to celebrate the festival.
