Pattaya prostitution crackdown leads to arrests of foreign nationals in Thailand

A Pattaya prostitution crackdown has led to the arrest of multiple foreign nationals during coordinated late-night operations in both Pattaya and Bangkok. Thai authorities say the actions respond to public complaints and aim to enforce laws on public conduct and immigration in key tourist areas.

Authorities arrested 16 foreign women during inspections on April 9 along Pattaya Beach Road and Pattaya Second Road.

Pattaya operation targets nightlife areas

Authorities arrested 16 foreign women during inspections on April 9 along Pattaya Beach Road and Pattaya Second Road. These streets form the centre of the city’s nightlife and attract large numbers of tourists.

Inspections were carried out on April 9 along Pattaya Beach Road and Pattaya Second Road.

Officers from immigration, tourist police, and social services took part. Twelve women, from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Uganda, faced charges for soliciting in public. Thai law treats this behaviour as a public nuisance.

Officials issued fines through the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. Immigration officers began visa cancellation and deportation procedures.

In a separate case, police detained another Ugandan national for both solicitation and overstaying her visa by 108 days. Overstaying remains a criminal offence in Thailand and often leads to fines, detention, and removal from the country.

Three more Ugandan women were also detained on similar charges. Authorities confirmed deportation steps are underway.

Bangkok arrests follow public complaints

A similar enforcement action took place in Bangkok after complaints on social media. Reports stated that foreign women were approaching visitors along Sukhumvit Soi 4, a well-known nightlife street.

Police arrested 16 individuals, including nationals from Tanzania, Kenya, and Vietnam. They were charged under the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act 1996. This law prohibits approaching people in public to offer sexual services in a way considered disruptive.

All suspects were transferred to the Immigration Bureau office in Suan Phlu. Officials expect visa revocations and deportations to follow.

The Pattaya prostitution crackdown and related actions in Bangkok show increased enforcement in tourist zones. Authorities state the goal is to maintain public order and respond to concerns raised by residents and visitors.
