Despite the fact that the island is currently covered in pollution, the governor of Phuket has informed the locals that there is no need for concern. Narong Woonciew reportedly met with local officials yesterday and referred to the haze as a “natural phenomenon,” according to a Phuket News story.

To be clear, the haze and pollution that have been engulfing Phuket and the southern part of Thailand for the past three days are NOT a result of a natural phenomenon; rather, they are the byproduct of smoke being carried south from northern Thailand and fires burning outside of Thailand’s boundaries. The governor of Phuket has either received inaccurate information or is not aware of the full extent of Phuket’s present air pollution issue.
