Transgender Theft Suspected in Pattaya Necklace Incident; Police Investigating

PATTAYA – A 27-year-old Indian jewelry store owner reported to Pattaya police early Tuesday morning that he was the victim of a theft involving a transgender individual, who allegedly stole a gold necklace valued at approximately 150,000 baht (around USD 4,100).

The incident was reported at 2:36 AM on August 5, 2025, by Mr. Hemanth Kumer, who filed the complaint with Pol. Lt. Kriengkrai Kaewpipop, deputy investigation officer at Pattaya City Police Station. The alleged theft took place in Soi Beachfront 13/2, a side street located near Pattaya Beach in the city’s central entertainment district.

Mr. Kumer told police that while walking in the area, he was approached by two transgender individuals dressed in revealing clothing who offered him sexual services. Though he declined, he claimed they continued to engage with him physically, hugging and touching him. After a brief interaction, he walked away to speak with another transgender person nearby. It was only later, upon returning to his room and preparing to shower, that he noticed his gold necklace—estimated to weigh around 40 grams—was missing.

Following the report, Pattaya police issued a radio alert to locate suspects matching the victim’s description. Senior officers, including Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu, superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, have been briefed on the case, and an investigative team has been assigned to review CCTV footage and gather witness testimony from the area.

However, authorities say they are still working to verify the accuracy of Mr. Kumer’s account, citing inconsistencies in his statements. According to police procedure, if the investigation determines the report was intentionally falsified, the complainant could face charges for making a false statement to law enforcement.

Pattaya, located in Chonburi Province, is one of Thailand’s busiest tourist hubs, known for its vibrant nightlife and beachfront entertainment areas. Encounters involving scams or petty theft have been reported in the past, particularly in areas frequented by tourists during late-night hours.

Authorities continue to investigate the case and have urged anyone with information or relevant footage from the area to come forward. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether legal action will be taken against the alleged suspect—or possibly against the complainant if the report proves unfounded.
