Officers from Lumpini Police Station carried out the operation with support from immigration authorities, investigative teams, and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. They monitored the area beforehand, then moved in to detain the suspects.

Authorities reported that those arrested included 10 women from Tanzania, five from Kenya, and one from Vietnam. All face charges under Thailand’s Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, which bans soliciting in public in a way seen as open or disruptive. Although prostitution exists in some areas, it remains illegal under Thai law.

Legal consequences under the crackdown

Following the arrests, the women were handed over to the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development, which deals with the social welfare side of such cases. They will face administrative fines before being passed on to immigration officials.

Authorities have confirmed that the women’s visas will be revoked. Deportation is expected once legal procedures are complete. All 16 have been transferred to the Immigration Bureau headquarters in Bangkok’s Suan Phlu area for further processing.

The operation reflects ongoing enforcement linked to the Bangkok prostitution crackdown, as authorities respond to public concerns and maintain order in key tourist areas. For visitors, it serves as a reminder that local laws are enforced consistently, even in districts known for their nightlife.
