Two Transgender Suspects Detained After Russian Tourist Reports 10,000 Baht Theft in Pattaya

A Russian tourist has reported the theft of more than 10,000 baht in cash after an alleged paid sexual encounter at a hotel near Pattaya’s Walking Street, prompting police to detain two suspects as the investigation continues.

The incident was reported at approximately 5:08 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1. According to Pattaya City Police, the tourist told officers he had paid 3,000 baht for sexual services inside his hotel room. After the encounter, he discovered around 10,000 baht was missing from his bag and immediately sought police assistance.

Officers responded to the hotel, secured the scene, and began gathering evidence. Police also requested CCTV footage from the property to trace the movements of those involved before and after the incident.

As part of the investigation, two suspects were detained for questioning. Police identified them as a Lao national, Mr. Phouangmalay Louanephilavan, and a Thai national identified as Mr. Phlai.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, examining entry and exit records from the hotel, and collecting forensic evidence. No charges have been announced, and police stressed that the investigation remains ongoing.

While prostitution is widespread in Pattaya, it remains illegal under Thai law. Police used the case to remind both Thai residents and foreign visitors to safeguard their valuables and to avoid purchasing sexual services, warning that such situations increase the risk of theft, fraud, and other crimes.

Authorities said they will continue gathering evidence and will pursue legal action against anyone found to have committed an offence.
