A 33-year-old Chinese tourist died after falling from the sixth floor of a hotel in South Pattaya during the early hours of 21 May 2026, according to local police.

The incident took place at a hotel near Soi Korphai, a street in Pattaya’s southern district known for hotels, restaurants, and nightlife venues popular with visitors. Authorities said the man fell onto a glass entrance canopy at the front of the building before becoming suspended on a steel support structure.
Police from Pattaya City Police Station received reports of the incident at approximately 3.35am. Investigating officer Pol Lt Col Alis Phuangsai attended the scene together with detectives and rescue personnel from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Foundation, a local emergency response organisation that assists police and medical services in the city.
Officers found the victim wearing boxer shorts near the shattered glass canopy at the hotel entrance. Broken glass and blood stains were visible around the area as police secured the scene and restricted public access.

Investigators later inspected the sixth-floor hotel room where the tourist had been staying. Police said another Chinese man was found asleep inside the room. Officers also reported finding alcohol bottles and discarded seed shells on the floor. No signs of a struggle or forced disturbance were observed inside the room.
According to police, the deceased had arrived at the hotel with a group of Chinese friends who were staying in several rooms at the property. Authorities said the group had been at the hotel for two nights. The roommate is being questioned as part of the investigation because he was the last known person to have seen the victim before the fall.
A hotel security guard told investigators he heard a loud crashing sound, which he initially believed was a heavy object striking the glass roof outside the building. After checking the entrance area, he discovered the tourist’s body suspended on the damaged steel framework and contacted emergency services immediately.
Rescue workers used ropes and safety equipment to recover the body from the shattered canopy. The body was first transported to Pattaya Patamakun Hospital before being transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The death comes amid growing public concern over a series of fatal falls involving foreign nationals in Pattaya, a coastal city known for its large tourism and expatriate population. Earlier this year, British businessman and ASOS co-founder Quentin Griffiths died after falling from the 17th floor of a condominium in the city.
Repeated reports involving falls from hotels and condominiums have raised questions among local residents and foreign communities about safety, mental health, and the pressures sometimes faced by long-term visitors and expatriates living in the city.
Police have not confirmed the cause of the latest fall. Detectives said the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence from the hotel.
