PATTAYA, Thailand, May 18, 2026. Thai police are investigating the death of an American man whose body was discovered hanging from the balcony of an apartment building in Pattaya during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Authorities were called to the Grand Residence apartment complex on Jomtien Second Road shortly after 1:00 a.m. local time. The property, located in Pattaya’s popular Jomtien area, operates as a short term rental and serviced apartment building frequented by both tourists and long stay foreign residents.
Police identified the deceased as 50 year old American national Timothy Tahei Witsil. According to investigators, the body was found at Room 603 on the sixth floor of the seven story building. Officers said the man was wearing gray jeans and sandals and was not wearing a shirt at the time he was discovered.
Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon rescue foundation attended the scene alongside officers from Pattaya City Police Station. In Thailand, volunteer rescue foundations often work closely with police and emergency services, particularly in traffic accidents, medical emergencies, and death investigations.
Investigators said an initial examination suggested the man had been dead for at least three hours before authorities arrived. Police reported no signs of forced entry, theft, or a struggle inside the room. Officials also stated that no visible injuries or signs of assault were found on the body during the preliminary inspection.

A local teenage witness told police he first noticed what appeared to be someone hanging over the balcony while sitting with friends across the street from the building. After realizing the situation was serious, he alerted a nearby motorcycle taxi driver, who then contacted emergency services. Motorcycle taxi drivers are a common part of daily transportation in Thailand and often assist in emergencies due to their constant presence on local streets.
Police documented the scene and transferred the body to a forensic facility for a full autopsy. Authorities said the examination will help determine the exact cause of death.
As of Sunday afternoon, Thai police had not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
